We are Marginalia Making, a group of undergraduate and graduate students in Communication, facilitated by Dr. Fernanda Duarte, a faculty member in the Department of Communication at North Carolina State University. We are implementing critical making workshops to reframe technical literacy and critical thinking through a framework of care to imagine, engage and reconstruct technological imaginaries that are more inclusive and equitable.

Marginalia Making embodies a critical making approach that is more interdisciplinary; prioritizing thinking of the epistemology of science that is not bound by the lens of progress. Thus, we engage a mode of innovation that is geared by sustainability, freedom, inclusion, collaboration, and creativity. We implement critical making workshops as a strategy for serious play, critical reflection, and social intervention to further technological literacy and engage with social justice design among underserved student populations.
